Assassin’s Creed: Revelations’ PlayStation 3 version gets Assassin’s Creed 1 for free
Ubisoft have given everyone a reason to change their pants over the Assassin’s Creed series once again. The latest reason for the garment change is the announcement that the original Assassin’s Creed game will come for free with day one copies of the latest
instalment in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.
In case the news has not sunk in yet, we would like the opportunity to reiterate the previous statement in simpler, more marketing friendly terms, ‘Buy Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and get Assassin’s Creed absolutely free! *’
The ‘*’ is standard in every promotional offer of this nature and usually means there is a catch, which in this case is the fact that the game, which started the worldwide phenomenon we known today as Assassin’s Creed, will only be included in the launch
day copies of Ubisoft’s latest game in the series.
With Revelations releasing in the midst of one of the fiercest windows it possibly could, in terms of competition in the market, the holiday season and that too around the same time as gaming heavy weights such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield
3 and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
It seems that every publisher is doing it’s very best to entice gamers to their title by throwing in a little extra. Ubisoft, it seems, are counting on a wave of nostalgia to sweep over every Assassin’s Creed fan as Revelations is set to end the story arcs
of both Ezio Auditore and Altair. The latter being the hero in the first game and the former taking over those responsibilities in Assassin’s Creed 2 and Brotherhood.
Publishers are not the only ones hoping to emerge on top at the end of the holiday season as the move to put the original game with the latest one was brought about by a deal which was struck between Sony and Ubisoft, which in business terms was quoted as
‘a special partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment’.
Again ‘special partnerships’ are nothing new in the industry as Microsoft received exclusive Downloadable Content for titles such as Red Dead Redemption for the Xbox 360, while Sony had timed exclusivity with the Joker missions for Batman: Arkham Asylum,
on the PlayStation 3.
Either way, free stuff is never a bad thing and free stuff with a hidden blade and an Assassin named Altair, is even better. For now, at least it seems Ubisoft is throwing its considerable weight behind the game to ensure it gets off to a strong start in
terms of sales for the first few weeks following its release. How well will the move pay off? Only time will tell.
