Assassins Creed: Revelations and Mass Effect 3 not doing too well on the Pre-Order front
If one thing can be learned from the gaming world, it is that showing a truly spellbinding and intense trailer or offering same s*x partnerships in the game will not automatically translate into sales.
Mass Effect 3
Starting off with the game, which above everything else, will be talked about more for the ‘relationship options’ the game will offer on its release.
Mass Effect is Electronic Arts’ premier Action Role Playing Game series and the third instalment is touted by its developer to be the best in the series yet. However, that statement has not been able to transcend into pre-orders.
Though the notion that sales do not determine whether or not a game is great or not may be served up, it is important to note that EA has a lot riding on Mass Effect 3 and a disappointment on the financial side may rear the fickle side of gaming. As developers
often abandon franchises after disappointing showings.
However, things are not that bad for Mass Effect 3, though EA will be slightly let down by the games standing in the United States Pre-Order charts. Standing at seventh position, the game has a total of 142,801 orders so far, which seems a rather tiny figure
if compared with Gears of War 3’s 1,070,922 orders to date.
Again however, one should not be too quick to draw conclusions as Mass Effect 3 is a full 36 weeks away from release and the numbers should pick up by then.
Assassins Creed: Revelations
Sitting one position above Mass Effect 3 is Ubisoft’s next installment in their blockbuster series: Assassins Creed: Revelations.
The Assassins Creed franchise has a huge following across all the major platforms, though it seems that in the United States gamers tend to prefer first person shooters, with Gears of War 3, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 taking up the top three spots.
The fourth game in the series, or part two: episode three as it commonly being referred to, will conclude the story for the game’s three protagonists, namely Altair, Ezio Auditore and Desmond.
With one of the best video game trailers in history, an award bettor.com does not hand out lightly, the game caused a huge stir when it was shown at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Much like Mass Effect 3 however, it has not translated into Pre-Orders
for the game.
With a figure of 149,998 orders to date, the game is also well behind the Top 3, while at the same time just a mere 7,197 orders above Mass Effect 3. At the same time however, the game received an impressive 45,977 orders in the previous month, which helped
it leap frog a couple of positions in the chart.
Again, the low number of Pre-Orders could be down to the game’s distant release date, but the surge in pre-orders shows that the game is set to pick up plenty more orders as its release creeps ever closer.
Both Mass Effect 3 and Assassins Creed: Revelations are set to end the plot-lines for their respective characters and despite the slightly disappointing showing so far, the franchises are two of the gaming world’s finest.
Mass Effect 3 may have an easier time releasing next year, but it will be a h**l of a fight for Assassins Creed as it will face stiff competition from some of gaming’s biggest names. That however, is no reason to write the game off as it is sure to have
a few hidden blades up its sleeve.
