Assassin’s Creed: Revelations continues to tease, Desmond’s story to continue
Assassin’s Creed is a franchise, which apart from being different from other games, in the sense that Assassin’s Creed takes actual history and adds its own blend of fictitious action and conspiracy, has become known for being a bit of a tease in the world
of gaming.
The latest installment in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, was set to end the story lines of all the characters. However, now it seems that Desmond Miles, the descendant of both Altair and Ezio Auditore, the protagonists of the first and second
games respectively, will live on.
Darby McDevitt, the lead writer for the Revelations announced, “Well, we won’t answer everything because Desmond's story continues. But fans will definitely know most of the important details of Ezio and Altair's lives, and how they fit into the grand scheme.”
While this is not a bad thing by any stretch of imagination, the game has made a name for itself for having some of the most mind-bending, almost cryptic endings of any triple A titles on next generation consoles.
Assassin’s Creed 2 ended with more questions being raised than were answered, and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood ended by answering a few of those questions before raising a few thousand of its own.
Desmond Miles seems an integral part of the story and has been consistent in all the parts so far, it seems that with the amount of effort gone into him and how he fits into the story, there is plenty more to come from him in the future.
Speaking about the two assassin’s, McDevitt acknowledged that age would play a role in the stories, but that it may not end up being too big a factor for Altair and Ezio.
He explained, “...one must remember that Ezio and Altair are rather special people. Also, although 52 was old in the 1500s, it wasn't uncommon for people to live for quite a long time. Suleimon the Magnificent lived to around 70, and one Janissary (Sultan's
bodyguard) that we found lived to be 104.”
Though one could find it hard to imagine either Altair or Ezio jumping off a high tower into a bale of hay at the age of a 104, it may play an integral role in the story of the game.
However, as with everything that has to do with Assassins, or ninjas for that matter, it seems silence is paramount and McDevitt did not divulge any more information about the game.
Whether he was luring fans into a false sense of security with the announcement of Desmond staying alive to continue the series, one cannot be too sure. However, gamers can find out for themselves how Ezio and Altair’s stories conclude when Assassin’s Creed:
Revelations hits stores this holiday season.
