Assassin’s Creed: Revelations delayed! No reason cited but only on PC
Ubisoft dropped a bit of a gaming bombshell recently when it announced that the latest instalment in the Assassin’s Creed series would not meet its release date and would be delayed. In a bittersweet twist though, the delay will only affect PC users as the
console versions of the game will ship as scheduled in November.
Apart from spawning another flame war between console and PC users as to how the other one is inferior, but with a much more colourful choice of words, the news will come as the second bit of disappointing information.
The first bit being the announcement that Rocksteady delayed the PC launch of their highly anticipated title, Batman: Arkham City. The difference between the two, however, has been how each studio has handled each situation differently.
Rocksteady released a full statement explaining the reasons for the delay in their game. They stated that they wanted to optimise the game for each specific SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) and were working on PC specific issues for the game. The extra time would
give developers the chance to sort out the unique bugs and glitches which only appear in the PC version of the game.
As for Ubisoft, well that is an entirely different story, as the publisher released the following, rather blunt statement, “Assassin’s Creed Revelations will launch on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 15 and PC in December.”
The statement was met with cries of agony, tears of disappointment and the odd case of misplaced computer gamer rage. It is interesting to note how the statement began with the good news and ended with the not so good bit, which makes the statement rather
comical, or it could just be Bettor.com’s rather silly sense of humour.
Another, more important, thing to notice was the fact that there was no specific release date for the PC version, which was dated as ‘December’. Whether it is the start of the month or near the end, no one but Ubisoft knows at this point in time.
For those gamers who are saying to themselves that it makes no difference, let it be known that December is the month when Christmas takes place and apart from the feeling of goodwill, celebration and kind-heartedness, there is also a lot of shopping that
is done. Shopping which video games usually hope to take advantage of, especially triple ‘A’ titles such as Assassin’s Creed.
While Ubisoft remain out of sight, probably hiding in a bale of hay somewhere, the PC gaming community waits anxiously and with teetering hope of the fact that maybe, just maybe, they can get a non-first person shooter title during the holiday season.
