Assault charges against Benji Marshall are dropped - Rugby League
The physical attack charge against Benji Marshall have been dismissed by court today, which will permit him to be part of his club West Tigers again and make his way up to the National Rugby League (NRL) final show down.
According to Wests Tigers’ chief executive, Stephen Humphreys, with the charges dropped there is no need for Marshall to be penalised further.
The charges held against Marshall are for assaulting Soliman Naimey outside a McDonald's outlet on March 5, in Sydney. This decision has finally shaken off the worries of Marshal which were building up in the back drop as the Tigers had continued to display
a very high performance profile throughout this season of NRL.
Pleased with the outcome of the court room session today, the chief of Tigers added, “Whilst we were always convinced of Benji’s innocence, it is, nevertheless, a great relief that the matter has now been successfully concluded. Benji and our Club have been
inundated with messages of support and I know that these messages have been a source of great comfort for Benji throughout this matter.”
He further went on to publically congratulate Marshall for making through it as innocent. Chief also appreciated Marshell for maintaining his composure through this rough patch in his professional life.
Marshall now want to play rugby to and improve his club's outlook.
It was further added by the chief that Marshall is not only exemplary in his exceptional on-field skill but his distinguished quality of maintaining his calm in stressful situations is also wins him respect.
Marshall does not confine himself to the rugby field and his contributions in community work also bags appreciation. When released of the assault charges, Marshall also admitted that he wants to focus on helping his outfit after the turbulent waters in his
playing career have settled down.
The player also added that he is glad with the decision of court, for the assault charges against him and amidst that all he thanked his legal team, Wests Tigers, the NRL, friends and family for their support.
