Asseco Resovia defeats ACH Volley in semis of 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup – Volleyball news
Asseco Resovia RZESZOW of Poland reserved a berth in final match of 2012 CEV Men’s Volleyball Cup by edging out ACH Volley of Slovenia on Saturday.
Despite the advantage of the playing at familiar court and in front of the home supporters, ACH Volley failed to win the match. The guest team from Poland sent 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 on board and bagged match victory. Next up, the Asseco Resovia will meet Russia’s
Dinamo Moscow in the final.
The semi-final stage of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup created an equal opportunity for both teams. Poland hosted the first match last week and exhibited a spectacular performance. The Slovenian team failed to prove its endeavours in the previous match and
dropped the decision in straight sets.
However, the team returned from Poland with a firm ambition to cover the deficit in the next home game but the second match unfolded the similar story. Polish hotshots performed exquisitely well and held off ACH Volley for another 3-0 triumph at their home.
RZESZOW finished the semi-final round 2-0 and advanced to the final encounter of 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup.
In the second match against ACH Volley, Poland’s GROZER György scored match-high 18 points. Slovenian team was supported by CEBULJ and BOJIC, who contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.
ACH Volley could not get off to a great start but made too many mistakes in the opening set. Asseco Resovia promptly benefitted from their slip-ups and added quick points. The powerful serves and cross court shots of Poles created much trouble for hosts.
The visiting team led the scores 10-8 at the first technical timeout. The vital timeout helped the hosts to formulize new strategy and they tied the score at 10-all.
However, the RZESZOW displayed good rhythm and retook lead. They played fast and closed opening set of the game at 25-18.
Home squad opened the next set pretty well and it seemed as if the team was back in form. Nonetheless, Resovia changed gear right after the first technical break and went up on the scoreboard. György of Poland delivered amazing shots and helped the team
to claim second set with final score 25-19.
ACH Volley tried to save the game in third set but Poles showed no mercy and put an end to the game by winning third set in row. They posted 25-22 in third set and earned the status of victorious team.
The winning coach Andrzej Kowal praised the performance of his team. He expressed his emotions in the following manner.
He said, “We are evidently happy with this win but we are already focused on the next match of the Plus Liga. I wish ACH Volley the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
