Question:

Assistant Manager Problem at work?

I work at a Ice Arena and everyone there is like a family. Even the manager is too. We are very social with the public, hard workers, etc. We are having problems with the Assitant manager. He is never around for the oublic (like if people have questions or need something, they cant find him). He is very lazy. This might be because, his old job did not require him to do the stuff, that he has to do here. How should we approach him and talk about it?

  1. Honesty is the best policy. Have the manager have a candid discussion. In addition assign a mentor who can coach the candidate. Also its important to understand what were the expectations that were set for the candidate while joining.

Usually a good heart to heart discussion helps a lot.

  2. It isn't your place to do that.  Take your complaints to the manager and let him do his job!

  3. as an employee I would suggest friendliness, invite him to join you in a task ( maybe it'll help him feel needed), but as far as approaching him about being lazy, well that's not really up to you but to your manager, nor should it be discussed between the employees and the managers ( gossip), unless it's a complaint that you have against the guy

  4. He should be approached by his manager I think if you are not his manager you should all go to his manager and give him feedback and also ask about what are the duties he should be performing.  Then the manager will take care of this, not the employees.
