Assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo to remain at Chelsea, Andre Villas-Boas confirms
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo, the Chelsea assistant manager, dismissed rumours that he was unhappy with his position at the London club and was nearing an exit. The former Italian international revealed he enjoyed a good relationship with the Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas
and planned to remain with Chelsea for the time being.
Despite how Di Matteo wishes to look at his role at Chelsea, it is a demotion for the Italian who was the manager of West Bromwich Albion before being sacked in February. It was then that the former Chelsea midfielder re-joined the club as the assistant
manager.
Di Matteo said while speaking to reporters:
“I don't know where the story has come from. I am very happy here, very happy to work with Andre and the other technical staff.”
According to Di Matteo he was content with his role at the club and had no intentions of parting ways with the London club any time soon. He revealed he had a fruitful relationship with the 34-year-old Portuguese manager, which made working at Stamford Bridge
enjoyable.
He revealed:
“Andre and I have developed not only a professional partnership but over the months a friendship which will last forever. We have a strong friendship that we will keep. I think that says it all.”
The Italian considered Villas-Boas a friend and denied all talks of an early exit, which was said to be the case by media. Rumours claimed that Di Matteo had received offers from other clubs to take over as the manager, which is why he was considering leaving
the Blues.
Di Matteo confirmed:
“I am committed to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. There were some enquiries about me and I was flattered but I politely declined because I am very happy where I am and want to be successful with this group and this club.”
The Chelsea assistant manager admitted that he had indeed received interest and offers from other clubs, but he was currently not interested. Meanwhile, Andre Villas-Boas also rubbished rumours that his number two was nearing an exit.
Villas-Boas said in an interview:
“It's something completely out of this world. I don't know how this story came from. It's completely wrong, a false story.”
