Question:

Associate in Arts vs. Associates in Science

I'm starting comm. college until i can transfer and when registering for my classes they said that associates in arts is what you need if you want to transfer...why not associates in science?

  1. AA has more of the basics for the baccalaureate degree, such as the core classes of english, sociology, psych, math and other required lower division classes...and AS degree is ordinarily more keyed toward technical training, which is fine if you are looking toward employment after the AS is obtained, but some of the technical classes may not transfer to the 4 year college or university...good luck  


  2. really depends on what you want your 4 year degree to be... you really want them to match...if you want a BA in psychology  then get a aa in humanities/social science... if you want a BS  or masters you may want a different degree... also if you intend to go on for a masters  you really need to know what you want to do as soon as possible..the S degree is more scientific... statistics,... experiments etc... humanities more the arts...like counseling etc..  good luck!
