what are the weather conditions associated with a high pressure system?

temp, dew point, wind speed and direction, cloud cover, etc.

  1. Temp can vary depending on type of high.  Dynamic high should be warm due to subsidence.  Thermal high is going to be very cold.  Low dew point.  Light winds, especially as you get into the center of the high.  Fair weather.  Few clouds.

    Cooler temperatures, lower dew point, increase in wind velocity, change in relative direction (high pressure areas rotate clockwise) cloud cover decrease.  

    High pressure means colder air, clearer air, less humid air and higher velocity wind.

  3. High pressure systems TYPICALLY bring clear skies due to substidence. Some areas are prone to cold-air stratocumulus on the east side of the high.

    NW - N wind direction, can be windy on the east side of the high. Cold air advection, drier dew points. In the center of the high, light and variable wind.
