to stardom with Tottenham especially since the arrival of manager Harry Redknapp. The English manager has reformed the way Benoit defended before he came to North London, but it appears that there is still room for improvement for the Spurs left-back.
Assou-Ekotto moved to the English Premier League in 2006 from French side Lens, but he struggled with a knee injury early on in his time in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. However the 26-year-old has now secured a permanent full-back spot in the Tottenham
squad, something that has not been easy for the defender. Assou-Ekotto said in a recent interview, "Team spirit here is exceptional under Harry. I want to stay at Spurs for life. I would have signed for six years! I love playing in the Premier League; it's
the best league in the world. Why would I want to play anywhere else?"
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cameroon-c2865 international recently signed a new five-year deal at White Hart Lane, which will keep him at the London club till 2015. Early on in his career at Tottenham Benoit suffered a knee problem, which kept him out for 18
months. He spoke at length about the injury as he said, "When you are out for 18 months, people forget about you. When I eventually returned some of my team-mates did not know who I was. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermaine-Jenas-c18362, 'Who's this? Nobody remembered me,
but it made me hungrier to establish myself as a first-team regular."
Tottenham Hotspur qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history this season. They finished top of their group in the first round and now face AC Milan in the knockout round. The match will be a feisty one,
but Spurs are currently focusing on the English Premier League, where they are at
fifth place. They have 27 points from 17 games. As the end of December approaches, Tottenham will be looking to get all three points from their next league encounter away at Aston Villa. Benoit is in line to start for Tottenham
on 26 December, 2010.
