Mahatma Gandhi said, "The spirit of democracy cannot be established in the midst of terrorism, whether governmental or popular." If Gandhi is correct, what does this say about Iraq?

  1. Terrorist regimes are never going to be a government that is peaceful. They need to be finished off. Iraq is a good opportunity as it is still the central theater in the war on terror.

  2. It means we should leave, basically. Gandhi would have never supported our invasion and kiling of civilians under false pretenses for financial motives. We should also look to our own government under Bush and be glad that he's being ousted in '09, AND make sure not to elect McSame.

  3. Well, according to Gandhi, we shouldn't be there to begin with. Unfortunately, the reality is that we are there. So what might Gandhi suggest at this place in the struggle? I don't know Gandhi very well, but we need to focus on what is going well in Iraq. There are good things for which the people of Iraq are thankful and grateful. There are service men and women who feel peace knowing that they were doing things out of a genuine goodness that made a difference to their fellow human beings in Iraq.

It is my belief  that there are people who send out very negative energies and attitudes, that corrupt or sabotage a greater good from happening in Iraq. You simply cannot convince me that this deep, almost seething hate by some, is promoting any good. It just attracts more of the same. The lack of gratitude that I am hearing primarily from opponents of this administration and it's party, is extremely damaging.

Gandhi speaks a great deal about gratitude and how it's presence will lift a person or people to something greater. If we cannot show gratitude in our greatest struggles, we have surrendered ourselves to misery. We must find hope in what is here and now. Hope should not be based on something we would like to happen. That isn't hope. but a wish..

  4. It means to get the F*** out.

  5. It says if all our troops are pulled from Iraq, the terrorists WILL TAKE OVER, and there will NEVER BE ANY SORT OF DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ.
