When young, we're healthy, strong and quick-witted. So why not work when young, but as we age and get older, shift more and more towards learning?

  1. If you just look at something like language. It is much easier to learn a language at a early age. I like your idea but part of that learning comes from experience and education.

  2. Because the brain is most receptive to learning at the youngest age.  Old dogs can learn new tricks, but the younger ones can learn them faster...

  3. Emotional maturity is not the same thing as capacity to learn. When we're young, our brain is developing very quickly, and learning critical thinking skills before it stops is essential. I've also heard that the brain stops growing and starts shrinking at age 18, but that's unverified.

Besides, we need to learn the basics before we can move on to specialized learning. I would argue that we *do* shift more and more towards learning as we get older, but it's more field-specific and not necessarily in a familiar classroom setting. For those that learn best in the classroom, that's what graduate school is for.

  4. bad assumption   mental illness   emotional illness  stops growth on levels you do not know, hence the behaviour is reflective of what the person knows and can do

when they know better,  they do better
