Asterisk or no asterisk for winner of '08 British Open?

I personally think that the asterisk is ridculous because I'm sure that Arnold Palmer or "the black knight" missed out on some majors and an asterisk was never put on the Claret Jug or any other trophies. It's rediculous.

The concept of an asterik is so obsurd.  Lets see...should we put an asterik for this yrs Masters......Tiger did not play well enough......should we put an asterik by last yrs British...Padraig won...and Tiger did not...geeesh.......give me a break

The media is responsible for this asterisk bull c**p!  They talk down golf and other players whenever Tiger does not play!  Well, it's not the other tour pros' fault that Woods needed to have his knee reconstructed.

No asterisk on any major that Tiger misses!  He missed those majors because he injured himself.

For what reason would an asterisk be placed next to a players name as winner of the Open ? Did you make the assumption that since TW did not play, the competition is less than good? If TW had won every major tournament  where he was entered you might have a valid point.

maybe the only possible asterisk that could be put beside this tournament would say that it was horribly windy and thats why the winner is 6+ - 7+*

Who dreamed up the asterisk idea?  It is insane and violates the sport of golf's  most valued code of honor.  I am sure Tiger would not even think such an idea is reasonable.  It says that nobody is any good except Tiger. It is insult to all pro golfers who have every been honored to play The Open, including Tiger Woods.   It must be the idea of some sports writer who have competed on any field of honor.  But, is the TV expert!!!

No * that is ridiculous, yah and every world series winner in baseball should get an * if they didnt play the yankees. oh and of course the Super Bowl gets an * because the patriots didnt have a good game.
