Asterix Kieldrecht secures women’s national league title in Belgium – Volleyball news
Belgium’s Asterix Kieldrecht recently became the top team of women’s national volleyball league.
The Kieldrecht-based women’s volleyball squad overcame the tough competitor VDK Gent Dames in the final round of national league, which featured a total of three matches. Asterix Kieldrecht came on top with an overall 2-1 record and got hold of the national
title.
Asterix Kieldrecht played its first match of the final round against VDK Gent Dames on April 22 and pulled off success. The Kieldrecht team made a strong opening in the final round and finished the first match in straight sets. VDK Gent Dames tried every
possible measure to outdo the opponent but remained unsuccessful. Gert Van de Broek gave a winning plan to his team and Asterix Kieldrecht perfectly executed it. The city of Kieldrecht provided the backdrop for the match, while the local team delighted the
home fans.
Asterix Kieldrecht went on front with first match victory but the resilient rival brought the score to an even point by winning next match on April 28. Comparatively saying, the second match was way more difficult than the opening affair. It spanned over
five sets and put both teams to real test of temperament.
In the five set thriller, Asterix Kieldrecht could only claim two sets whereas the opposite side emerged successful by winning three frames. The success of VDK Gent Dames created a new vibe in the competition. All eyes were set on the last match of final
round, which took place on Tuesday, May 1.
Both teams had equal chances to make it to the top but only one could claw its way to the top. It was none other than Asterix Kieldrecht, which performed exceptionally well in the match and held off rival side for 3-1 victory.

Kieldrecht joined Noliko Maaseik that extended its supremacy in the men’s division some ten days ago. Noliko Maaseik defeated Euphony ASSE-LENNIK in the final round and seized Belgium’s national league title.
Freya Aelbrecht of Asterix KIELDRECHT was named the “Player of the Year” on account of her wonderful performance throughout the club season. She always led the team in the front row and hugely contributed to the overall success of her team. The team coach

Likewise, the jury of specialists nominated VDK GENT head coach Stijn Morand as the best coach of the 2011-12 campaign.
