What's the Asthenosphere? What's the Lithosphere? What are the difference between the two?

  1. Look at my site to see the layers of earth. The crust is the top layer where we live.It is about 30 k/m in continent and as low as 5 k/m under deep ocean. Next is lithosphere is about 100 k/m in depth.Solid rocks.Broken in to several pieces moving at the rate of about 50 to 100 mm per year causing the accumulation of pressure at the plate boundaries.Next layer is asthenosphere .It is semi solid hot molten metal.

  2. The Lithosphere is the rigid upper most layer of Earth also known as the plate tectonics.  

    The Asthenosphere is the upper mantle, the ductile layer, not molten but still very hot, about 1600 C, that carries the lithosphere.
