If a doctor told me i had astigmatism does that mean i can only wear contacts, the contacts that correct the problem?

I doubt i have astigmatism because my last doctor told me i didnt... So can i just wear regular contacts that correct my vision without astigmatism ?

Oh and is astigmatism born with or is formed? No one in my family has it.

  1. I wear regular contacts & I have astigmatism. I'm not sure if everyone that has it is born with it. I didn't have it when my eyesight first went bad, but I had it for a few years & then last time I went they said it wasn't as bad as it was.

  2. It depends entirely on how much astigmatism you have, as to whether it needs to be corrected with the  contacts.

A 0.25 or 0.50 of astigmatism never requires special lenses...

It also depends on how high the nearsighted part of the prescription is , as to how high the astigmatism can be before it needs to be corrected in many cases.

You say no one in your family has astigmatism...that would be surprising because 75 - 80 % of eyeglass wearers have some astigmatism.

It can be from birth, and can also develop later....just like near or far sightedness develops as you grow.

  3. i have been told that glasses are better for an astigmatism. some times my contacts get blurry, and my glasses never do. i would think you would be born with it.

  4. Form with. u can use softlens toric.
