Astigmatism and prescription contact lenses?

Having been told that if you have astigmatism you cannot wear corrective contact lenses. What can I do because ordinary contact lenses don't help much. I don't want to wear glasses. Thanks P.

  1. You don't have to be stuck with glasses! I have an astigmatism, too, and I wear toric contact lenses. Maybe at some point in the past, it wasn't possible for people who had astigmatism to wear contacts, due to the fact that they would not sit properly on the eye because of the astigmatism.

Toric lenses are specially made so that they "balance" correctly on the eye even though you have astigmatism.

I wear Acuvue Advance for Astigmatism:

  2. You can wear Toric contact lenses to correct astigmatism. Unless you have an extremely severe astigmatism, there should be a Toric lens available for you. If your friends told you that, don't listen to them. If your eye care professional told you that, go and see a different one.

Toric lenses are available over -4.00 cylinder strength, which is the astigmatism strength of your prescription. Unless it is over that number you can wear almost any Toric lens. If it is stronger you will be more limited in your choice of lenses, but there are still some available.

  3. I too have this condition and have been told the same thing.

Because I want to be able to read and see things, I wear glasses.

  4. No, u can try out purevision toric
