Aston Villa, Birmingham City negotiating swap deal
Midlands’ rivals Aston Villa and Birmingham City are currently in talks for a player-to-player swap deal.
Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies and Birmingham winger Sebastian Larsson are speculated to switch clubs. This is perhaps for the first time that two fierce rivals are negotiating a swap deal.
Birmingham were interested in signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Larsson-c32733 to Villa Park.
If the swap deal goes through, Birmingham would have to pay 1.5 million pounds along with Sebastian Larsson, who would be out of contract by the end of the 2010-11 season.
Davies was to be loaned out to Championship side Leicester City before Birmingham showed their interest in the 25-year-old but now have to wait for the deal to happen. Larsson has a big decision to make. Should he join Villa, he would forgo the chance to
participate in the Carling Cup final at the Wembley Stadium against Arsenal.
However, if he stays, Birmingham would lose the player for a free transfer at the end of the season. That would be something Birmingham would not want and it is likely that Larsson would cheer his former team from the stands at Wembley.
On the other hand, Davies is looking forward to joining Birmingham as he has fell down the pecking order at Villa and needs more first team appearances to establish himself.
Villa look rejuvenated under the new manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 for 24 million pounds and he has made a major impact since his arrival.
Villa now look forward to re-establishing themselves in the top 7 of the Premier League. Their next match is a difficult trip to the undefeated Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have managed just one draw in their 13 home fixtures, winning
the remaining 12. That is an exceptional record for a side which still has to hit the top form in the season.
United have managed to score 34 times in their 13 fixtures, conceding just 7 times. Aston Villa however, managed to draw against United earlier in the season, despite going 2 goals ahead. Villa now have the services of Bent, who has scored against United
on multiple occasions.
