Aston Villa Captain set to return for derby match
Aston Villa Captain Stiliyan Petrov is all set to make his come back from injury in time for the midlands Derby against Birmingham City on the 16th of January. The player has not been part of the outfit since late October this season, following
a knee issue he suffered against the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light. Petrov is currently going through some rehabilitation at the training camp and would be hoping to be back to full training within this month. Having said that, Petrov still needs to be
careful while training as any more injuries to the knee can lead to more problems, nevertheless, the player is currently focused on making his return in the Midlands Derby.
"It has been a painful experience for me. Throughout my career, I've never missed too many games through injury and it's not something I've enjoyed. I just have to be patient for a little longer but my knee is now well and truly on the mend. I've really
stepped up my work rate recently and I'm looking to be back in training within the next couple of weeks. Then I aim to be pushing for a recall within 10 days or maybe a couple of weeks of returning to training. With a bit of luck, I will be back for the derby
away to Birmingham in mid-January”, stated the Aston Villa Captain.
The side is currently sixteenth in the premier league and would want to get back to their mid table position they managed last season. However, a lot has changed as manager Martin O Neill resigned from the post as the first team manager. Former Liverpool
manager, Gerard Houllier took up the post and has managed some good results since his return to the premier league. The manager managed a 2-2 draw against Manchester United and took Villa out of the relegation zone. He now looks to keep having a good string
of results to see his side back in the first half of the table and finish in the top seven, a feat he is very capable of performing.
