English Premier League side Aston Villa have successfully completed the signing of Matt Lowton, the Sheffield United defender, for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old has signed a four year deal with the Villans which will keep him at the club until 2016 in a deal which is believed to be worth 3 million pounds. Lowton will be thrown in the mix as soon as the new season kicks off, with the English defender
expected to fight for his place in the squad.
His competition for the right-back spot are http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eric-Lichaj-c12709, but it is believed Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert will give everyone an equal chance to prove themselves. Lowton becomes the manager’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
Lowton admitted it had been his childhood dream to play in the English Premier League and was extremely pleased to be living his dream. He said he was grateful for the opportunity and was eager to repay the Aston Villa manager’s trust in him.
Lowton said in an interview:
“It's every boy's childhood dream to play in the Premier League and it was one of mine. This opportunity is fantastic and I thank the manager for giving it to me. Hopefully I can repay the faith that's he's shown in me and keep going at a higher level.”
The young defender revealed he was capable of playing in different positions, having previously functioned as a central and right midfielder. However, it was last season that he began playing as a right-back, which had worked out well for him.
He revealed:
“I played the majority of last season at right back but I have played right midfield and central midfield as well.”
The new Aston Villa manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert said he believed Lowton would prove to be a fantastic signing, with the defender showing all the signs of a top player in the making.
Lambert said:
“Matthew is a really talented young player who brings a lot of things that can really benefit the club. He's a good player already and he's only young so he has the potential to be a really good player for us.”
