Aston Villa defender receives League Cup warning over Burnley
Aston Villa left-back Stephen Warnock says that he has been warned by the threat posed by Football League Championship outfit Burnley ahead of the sides’ meeting in the League Cup on Wednesday, 27 October.
Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies was the man who told Warnock to properly prepare for Burnley after his team exited the competition at the hands of Brian Laws' men.
While Davies didn’t play in that game, he saw first-hand that the Clarets (who were in the English Premier League last season ) were a side capable of causing problems and has told his fellow England squad man Warnock to be wary of the Lancashire club.
Warnock told his club’s official website, "I was talking to Kevin about it while we were away on international duty. He told me they played some really good football and that they were a really good team on the night.
"We know it's going to be a difficult game. They have some good players, people who can win games. I've seen them a few times and they are a good side. They are hoping to get back into the Premier League and they still have players who are capable of playing
at the top level. We know they will be a good standard."
Villa reached the final of the competition last season, where they were defeated 2-1 by Manchester United, but Warnock is hoping to go one better this season.
"The League Cup is very important. It was a great experience to play in the final last season. Now we know what it's like to be beaten in a final and we want to go back there and win. It's a chance to win some silverware. You want to look back on your career
and think you have won something."
