http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert, the new Aston Villa manager, is reportedly eyeing Sheffield United defender Matthew Lowton as a potential signing in the summer transfer window.
Lowton currently has two years remaining on his contract and after an impressive season, he has been linked with various sides. Lambert is apparently considering whether or not to make a serious bid for the 23-year-old defender who can also double as a midfielder.
The English player began his career with Leeds United, joining Sheffield United after a brief period when he was nine years old. He made it from the youth level to the reserve side, during which time he was converted from a full-back to a central defender.
He spent some time on a loan move at Sheffield in 2008 and joined Ferencvaros a year later in 2009. It was at the Hungarian side that he had the opportunity to make his debut for the senior team, making 18 appearances before returning to Sheffield United.
Lowton made his debut in the Championship for Sheffield United in the 1-1 draw against Cardiff City in March, after coming on as a substitute. He started his first game for the club in the last game of that season, with a promise of regular appearances in the upcoming season.
The following September he was given a new contract, after which he made somewhat regular appearances throughout the season and went on to score on important occasions. He was given another contract extension in the summer of 2011.
After the League One side failed to make it past the playoffs, a majority of the players are expected to head towards a Sheffield United exit. The manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Wilson-c10234 admitted many players could be leaving the club in the summer transfer window.
Along with Aston Villa, Ipswich Town and Derby County are also looking to sign Lowton from Sheffield United. However, it is highly likely the English youngster will prefer a move to the English Premier League as compared to the lower divisions.
Lambert is looking to bring in new signings so as to increase the competition within the squad, which he expects will improve performance in the upcoming season.
