Aston Villa looking to bring in Aiden McGeady
Aston Villa's manager Gerard Houllier is reported to be looking to snap up Spartak Moscow's winger Aiden McGeady and make him his first official signing in the January transfer window.
The twenty four year old recently signed on for the Russian side, in a deal that saw Spartak splash out twelve million pounds to lure the player to Russia from Celtic. However, according to numerous sources it appears as though
the player has found it quite hard to adjust to life in Moscow and as a result, he is finding it hard to play to his full potential for the team. That being said, he is also said to be looking to move back as close to Scotland as possible, since McGeady apparently
finds it more comfortable to perform closer to Scotland.
It appears that Houllier has become well aware of this fact and is looking to present the player with an offer he just cannot refuse in January. However, if the manager does decide to move for the player, then he will just add
fuel to the speculation that Ashley Young is on his way out of Villa. Over the course of the last couple of seasons, Young has been linked constantly with a move away from Villa Park and the way things are going at the moment, it seems like the time for the
player to move away is finally here, as the team is already looking to bring in an alternative.
However, McGeady could also be brought in to play as a supporting striker, as the player has shown his ability to play in that role as well. Nonetheless, the chances of that happening are quite unlikely and the more than obvious
reason for Houllier looking to land the player is probably down to the fact that the manger has admitted defeat on retaining Young any longer.
Now, the only factor that could hinder the move from going through is if Spartak decide they do not want to let go of a player that they signed just a couple of months ago. It is now going to be a wait until January to see what
happens at Villa Park, who stays, and who goes.
