Nigel Reo-Coker, the 26-year-old Aston Villa midfielder, revealed he could be staying with Aston Villa after his contract with the club expired at the end of the season. The Englishman will be a free agent in the summer and will be free to leave at the end
of the campaign, but hinted he could sign a new deal which would extend his stay at Villa Park.
The former England under-21 international said he was considering staying with the club after witnessing their ambition in the January transfer window, which saw them bring in former Sunderland striker Darren Bent. Reo-Coker believes the club has a new life
line with Gerard Houllier as their manager and with the 27-year-old England international now leading the strike force.
Reo-Coker said while speaking to reporters, “It is very positive. I think the club is heading in the right direction. There is nothing more and nothing less to say than the club is going in the right direction with signing players like Darren Bent. The manager
and the chairman are showing how ambitious and how serious they are taking things forward at the football club.”
The former West Ham United player, Reo-Coker, was full of praise for his former England under-21 teammate, “He is a great goal poacher and his goal scoring record is phenomenal. You only have to look at his record from all the clubs he has been at to see
that. I think he is only nine or 10 goals away from scoring 100 goals in the Premier League.”
Reo-Coker arrived at Villa Park from West Ham United in the summer of 2007 for a fee of £8.5 million on a four year deal. He was an instant success under previous manager Martin O’Neill and was even given the captain’s armband during the absence of Gareth
Barry. Even though he fell out of favor in 2009, he has made a successful comeback and is once again a regular in the Villa squad.
He is currently captain of Aston Villa, since http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stiliyan-Petrov-c34231 is sidelined with a long term injury, and is expected to remain so until the Bulgarian international returns. Reo-Coker revealed he expected Bent, the striker who joined the club for a record
breaking fee of £24 million in the winter transfer window, to play a big role in the revival of Aston Villa.
So far Bent has made 12 appearances in all competitions for his new side and has gone on to score 7 goals. Reo-Coker is confident there is more to come from the former Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland man, who scored 25 goals for the Spurs and 36 for the
Black Cats in his time with the clubs.
