Aston Villa set to lose key stars and Liverpool want Carlton Cole
Aston Villa could lose key players following Martin O’Neill’s exit from the club yesterday.
Ashley Young could be on his way out of Villa Park, with Tottenham Hotspur lining up a possible move, while James Milner also looks set to complete his move to Manchester City.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona are all after Mesut Özil. The Werder Bremen star will leave the club this summer as he is in the last year of his contract. However, the 21-year-old has his heart set on Barcelona, saying: “It is my dream to play for them [Barcelona].”
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is preparing making a £12million bid for Carlton Cole. The West Ham striker looks set to leave the Hammers, with much speculation linking him with a move away from Upton Park. Also, Liverpool will complete the signing of Juventus defensive midfielder Christian Poulsen on a three-year deal.
Stoke manager Tony Pulis is lining up a £9million bid for Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones, while Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is contemplating making a move for Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor, the former Arsenal striker. Redknapp is also being encouraged to make a potential £15million move for Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano.
Everton are the latest club to be linked with Nice striker Loïc Rémy. West Ham, Liverpool and Tottenham have been linked with the Frenchman, and now Everton are set to make a £13million offer. Meanwhile, Everton striker Yakubu and Ajax’s Miralem Sulejmani are being targeted by West Ham boss Avram Grant.
Shay Given has said he will leave Manchester City if his manager Roberto Mancini makes Joe Hart the No.1 goalkeeper. Given could make a possible loan move to Arsenal before the start of the new Premier League season this weekend.
Eidur Gudjohnsen is close to making a switch to Fulham after turning down the chance to move to Birmingham. The former Chelsea and Barcelona star had a loan spell in the Premier League at Tottenham last season.
Steven Caldwell wants to link up with his brother Gary at Wigan Athletic. Steven was released by Burnley, and Wigan manager Roberto Martínez has said: “We will speak to Steven but obviously these things boil down to a few things such as numbers.”
Marlon Harewood’s move to Blackpool could be off as the striker is demanding a huge wage. The former West Ham and Aston Villa player is currently a free agent. Meanwhile, Stoke winger Liam Lawrence will move to Celtic as a replacement for the departing Aiden McGeady.
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger is considering making a move for defender Mamadou Sakho of Paris St Germain, as well as Bolton’s Gary Cahill, Fulham’s Brede Hangeland, West Ham’s Matthew Upson and Everton’s Phil Jagielka. Wenger has stated he is in the hunt for another centre-back, as Sol Campbell left Arsenal and signed for Newcastle United, while William Gallas and Mikäel Silvestre are looking for new clubs after their contracts expired this summer.
