The 33-year-old midfielder has admitted the inspirational messages from people have provided much needed support during the tough time. Petrov has been undergoing treatment for the past three months after being diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
It was Petrov’s birthday on the 5th of July and he celebrated by attending the Villans’ first pre-season session under the new manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert. He revealed he was trying hard to be strong throughout the whole thing and keep believing that
he would get better.
Petrov said while speaking to reporters:
“I've been a strong character since the start of my career. I always believed that you need to be patient and you need to believe in things - and I believe that I will get better.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bulgaria-c2861 international said it had been extremely difficult hoping with the condition, but had been boosted by the extremely helpful doctors and nurses at the hospital. It was their support that had helped him cope better with the illness.
The midfielder revealed he was determined to face this challenge with strength and courage, with a few more months remaining of the chemotherapy. He said the toughest part of the treatment was behind him and he was looking forward to moving forward.
He said:
“I know I've got a few more months of chemotherapy and I need to go through it but I think that the hardest bit is over and from now on I just need to wait for the result to be positive.”
The support shown by fans and strangers alike has played a crucial part in helping Petrov believe that he could overcome the unfortunate condition. The Aston Villa skipper revealed he was currently home with his family and friends, on the long road to recovery.
Petrov continued:
“I am 33 today and it is good. I've had so many wishes and messages It is a good day and I hope I will keep receiving these messages for a few more years - a good 50 years!”
