Aston Villa vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers - Fantasy Premier League Preview: Gameweek 3
The league started off with a bang in the first two game weeks and while the dust may not have settled as yet, there has still been enough action and glimpses of class which our pundits here at Bettor.com have picked up on.
So if the reader wishes to outdo his friends, which to be honest is the entire purpose of fantasy premier league, then read on in Bettor.com’s preview to Gameweek 3 in the Fantasy Premier League.
Keep the core of the squad
The trick now is to make sure not to have too much activity in the transfer market. Managers are allowed one transfer, which is free from point deductions per gameweek, the player should try and restrict himself to it.
Change the core of the squad over time, as not only will you be able to make a more informed decision, but you may already be sitting on a gem, who just has not gotten his season going yet.
However, if you do have Titus Bramble in your team, you should 1. Get rid of him immediately 2. Be ashamed of yourself.
As we look ahead to the weekend of matches, we shall pick a few key players for each side who in our view should bag the manager plenty of points.
Aston Villa v Wolves
Playing at home, Aston Villa are the favourites to win this match, so it is with the Villains that we start.
If anyone is need of solid Goalkeeper without having to part with 6-million of their hard earned transfer funds, then
Shay Given should be top of the list.
Scoring seven points in his first game and two in his second, Given will be a great addition to any side. Seeing the match is against Wolves, who should not pose too much of a threat to the home side, the goal keeper is Bettor.com’s number one pick should
a manager be interested in Aston Villa for the gameweek.
Defenders
Priced at just five million, Stephen Warnock is the kind of defender managers should be on the lookout for, i.e. attacking. Expect him to bag a few points over the season as well as the gameweek as the bargain left-back looks to get his season going.
Midfielders
When it comes to the midfield, it is best to stay away from Aston Villa, though if a manager does wish to divulge himself, then Charles N’Zogbia should be in their sights. However, at 7.5-million, we just do not see enough value for money to have him as
a core member of the squad.
Strikers
Gabby Agbonlahor would've been our pick, but seeing how he is doubtful for the match, Darren Bent replaces him. Yes, he is pricey at 10-million, but if anyone can find the net against Wolves, he can.
Wolves
Playing surprisingly well is Wolverhampton Wanderers’ keeper, Wayne Hennessey, who has a good return of 9 points so far. Seeing as he is priced at just 4.5-million, he is a bargain. However, the defence in front of him has more holes in it than Swiss cheese,
so it is best to avoid.
Defence
With 16 points to his name is Stephen Ward. The defender seems to be riding a wave high point scoring at the moment and keeping him would be a risk. Yet, at just 4.5-million, he may be a risk worth taking.
Midfielders
Two words, Matt and Jarvis. The winger has been phenomenal in the opening two fixtures and has seen his value rise in the fantasy transfer market. Averaging 10 points a gameweek and for just 6.1-million, he seems an obvious decision.
He is Wolves’ best player and if any manager wants a player from this side, Jarvis should be it.
Strikers
At the moment Stephen Fletcher may be the top scorer for his side, in terms of points, but our pick has to be Kevin Doyle, who often ends up being the big fish in the little pond.
Our pick: If you had to pick just one player from either side, it would have to be Shay Given (GK) from Aston Villa and Kevin Doyle (STR) from Wolves.
