Newly appointed Aston Villa boss, Alex McLeish, has confirmed that the want-away winger, Ashley Young, will leave the club but the former Birmingham City manager is keen to keep hold of highly-rated winger Stewart Downing, who is also seeking a move away
from Villa Park.
Ashley Young has been long linked with a move away from Aston Villa and Manchester United are likely to be his next destination. Young’s transfer to Old Trafford is likely to happen in the next few days and McLeish has conceded that the 25-year-old winger
is on the verge of joining the Barclays Premier League champions.
“It's not confirmed yet [Young’s transfer to Manchester United] but it does seem likely. In my humble opinion it will be very difficult [to keep hold of him].” The former Birmingham City boss confirmed.
Moreover, Stewart Downing is being linked with a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. The 26-year-old winger had earlier revealed his wish to join the Merseyside club but McLeish wants to keep hold of the English winger.
McLeish sees Downing as a crucial player of his squad at Villa Park and is determined to pursue the winger to stay with the Lions.
“No chance do we want Stewart Downing to go. We certainly don't want to lose Stewart. I need to see what Stewart's thinking when he comes back because I know that he made some comments when he was away on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 duty,” added McLeish.
McLeish, who made a controversial transfer from Birmingham City to join rivals Aston Villa, has now set his sights on rebuilding the Villa squad for the next season.

themselves.
“There will be a clean slate for not only the young players but also the players already here. That includes those who perhaps were probably in the doldrums, those not playing at their best,” added the 52-year-old Scotsman.
