Question:

Astoria NY Time Warner vs Verizon?

Just moved to Astoria..shopping around for TV/Internet access. Found that I basically have to get phone service with either which I don't need to get the best deal. Time Warner would come out to $107 a month with $40 installation, while Verizon would be $106 with $40 installation after a rebate. Prices being essentially the same, except for Time Warner NOT including a wireless router which we need, which service is better? I think the Verizon TV isn't FIOS but instead DirecTV. Anyone have experience with these companies, have a better deal, or any suggestions? We need a standard tv receiver as well as an HD one.

Thanks!

  1. I don't know about tw service, but as far as FIOS, I do know.  The best way to tell if FIOS is available to your location you need to go to Verizon.com, click on FIOS, then it will bring you to a page to input you info.  It will tell you if it available.  If it isn't there will be a page to put in some other info for them to contact you when it is available.  As far as direct TV, if you have already called and they didn't say you needed a dish then it isn't dtv, and it is FIOS.  One of the best features I like about FIOS is that with the ONT and battery back-up, if you were ever to loose power you will still have dial tone on any non cordless or electric powered phone.  The cost will all depend on what TV packages you want, what state you live in as taxes vary from states.  It also will depend on which stb's you want, such as dvr, multi room function etc.  The best thing to do is log on or call Verizon for more specific info.
