I have always thought I am a Sagitarrius/ Capricorn cusp but I don't understand how the moon and rising signs fit into that or if they are cusps too. A little explanation please?

My birthday is Dec 21, 1987 at about 2:30 am Pacific time.

Thanks!

  1. Ask in the Entertainment & Music > Horoscopes section.

  2. To a professional astrologer there is no such thing as the cusp.  The time and place of birth are used to figure your correct sign for you sun sign.  The rising is the sky at the horizon at the time of your birth and the moon is the place of the moon.  the 3 together are the most important factors in your chart.  To get a complete reading you need to have a chart cast for you.

  3. There is no astrology..in the Astronomy and Space section.

Astrology is not factual.....it has no bearing on real world events.

Go to the entertainment section for the astrology section....it does not belong in this section....this section is for real science.

  4. Here's the hard truth: astrology is total bunk.  Let's look at this rationally (if that's possible).

The term "on the cusp" means that the the Sun was supposedly on the border between two of the zodiacal signs when you were born.  I guess modern astrologers don't really use the concept of "cusp" all that often...I don't really care, to tell you the truth.  But see, here's the thing: the borders between constellations are COMPLETELY arbitrary.  Different cultures have seen different pictures in the sky.  In fact, the "official" borders between constellations have been moved repeatedly over the last few centuries.  Nowadays, scientists only maintain the borders as a reference tool.  In reality, the stars that make up a constellation are many, many, many trillions of miles apart.  Despite the fact that they appear to be projected onto the surface of a sphere, there is great depth between them.  How could they possibly affect you?  What can you gain by knowing which particular arbitrarily-assigned group of stars the Sun was in front of on the day you were born?

You can't, and that's that.  Astronomy (the REAL science) is SO much more fascinating than astrology.  Might I suggest that you spend some time studying that instead?

Oh well...at least you didn't ask about 2012...

    Good luck.

  5. There are 3 independent ways of reckoning.

    1. Sun sign: The sign in which sun is positioned. For example sun is in Aries from March 21 to April 21 and subsequent signs in corresponding subsequent months. On Dec 21 he is entering Capricorn; so it is the cusp Sagittarius - Capricorn.

    2. Moon sign: The day Moon is in a sign. Moon spends 2 1/2 days in a sign. Around end of Dec he is in Cancer on Full moon. But Full moon may fall any time. You have to refer to the almanac for that year.

    3. Ascendent sign: The sign that is rising at that time. After every two hours subsequent sign rises (in the east). Along with Sun, his sign (in which located) rises, and is an easy pointer. Since Sun is entering Capricorn it needs a bit of calculation to fix the sunrise, at about 45d N (your approximate latitude), near about winter solstice. Sun rises 1hr 27' after 6am; that is 07:27 am. Reckoning backwards every 2 hours (5:27 Scorpio, 3:27 Libra, 1:27 Virgo), your ascendent happens to be Virgo.

In Indian Astrology these timings are given in Panchangam (Almanac) for those who want to consult it in a routine manner. I gave only a very rough estimates as a pointer; but you may consult accurate almanacs.
