Astrology reaching out for higher targets in the King Edward VII Stakes
After getting placed in the Epsom Derby, Aidan O’ Brien’s under charge, Astrology is the fiercest competitor to look out for in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot over a mile and four furlongs on Friday, 22nd June. With £85,065 at stake, six others will compete Astrology till the wire. Each three-year-old is unique in itself and thus is part of the line-up for the Group 2 today.
Leading with 5/4 odds is Astrology, Galileo’s three-year-old bay colt out of mare, Ask For The Moon. Out of the five races that came his way, the bay colt was successful in two and was placed third in the remaining.
Clearing the maiden did not seem to be much of an issue for Astrology who cleared it at the very first chance that he got. On 11th August, 2011, he led the field of eight by two lengths at Leopardstown over a mile.
The 4/6 favourite of the race, Mannheim, took up the third slot.
He was instantly notched to graded company as on 20th August, Astrology settled third in the Group 2 Galileo European Breeders Fund Futurity Stakes at Curragh over seven furlongs.
Dragon Pulse won the race with 1 ¾ lengths’ margin and set Parish Hall as the runner up. The 2/1 favourite of the race, Riviera Poet, finished fifth on the field of eight.
The A-Mark Racing Et Al bred then took part in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes on 8th October at Newmarket over a mile. The event was dominated by Rockinante while finishing the closest after racing through the 1 ¾ lengths was Perennial.
His second success of the season surfaced on 11th May, 2012 in the form of the Group 3 Stobart Barristers Dee Stakes at Chester over a mile and two and a half furlongs.
Riding with Joseph O’Brien, the 11/10 favourite winner of the race, Astrology, led by good eleven lengths. Qualifying as the runner up was Oxford Charley while filling up the third slot was Kingsdesire.
His most note worthy accomplishment till yet is the third position in the Group 1 Investec Derby on 2nd June at Epsom over a mile and four furlongs. The race was won by the 8/13 favourite stable mate, Camelot.
O'Brien said: "We haven't done much with him since the Derby but he seems to have come out of Epsom well.
"Ideally, he'd appreciate good ground but he did show when winning the Dee Stakes that he handles soft."
