Astros to meet the Cubs in two exhibition games – MLB News
Houston Astros are no longer the part of the National League. However, the club is scheduled to play against their former National League rival Chicago Cubs in two exhibition games at Minute Maid Park on March 29-30 next year.
According to the details that have been made public now, first game – on March 29 will commence at 7:05 p.m. CT, followed by the second one on March 30 at 1:05 p.m. CT.
Apart from the Interleague play which will take place on June 21-23, the two teams will have no other encounters in 2013. In effect, these two will be the only games the Cubs will play against the Astros in 2013.
Among the tough competitors like the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates, the two teams remained on fifth and sixth positions correspondingly in the past season.
Before the Chicago Cubs formally begin the regular season – scheduled to start on April 01 in Pittsburgh, the Cubs will have the last game of their Cactus League portion on 28th March followed by these exhibition games.
All the same, Cubs’ pitchers and catchers are supposed to report on February 10. Full squad is to report on February 16 as it is scheduled to have workout under manager Dale Sveum on Feb. 17.
The Chicago Cubs have made a series of moves in the offseason. From bringing in a couple of starters for the rotation – Scott Feldman and Scott Baker, to the Japanese reliever Kyuji Fujikawa, the Cubs have continued filling the roster with the right combination
of players.
Even though the past season was remarkably poor, the club is trying to make most of the changes they have recently made in the MLB `13.
The scheduled games against the Houston Astros, preceded by the Cactus League games, will bring to fore the preparation they have made, and the effect of the aforementioned moves.
Challenges abound, undeniably. However, the Cubs are carefully treading the path; knowing full well it is part of the process aimed at building a team that can sustain success in the long run.
