  1. In order to do any work experience in either country, you would need a valid work visa, or a student visa. To obtain that latter, you would need to register for a degree program in the country. I have never heard of an organization that would sponsor an intern for a visa, however. Some places do not have age requirements for their interns, but many will only accept you if you are less than a year out from earning your degree, so 8 years out from a degree might be too much.

If you are trying to shift careers and move to another country, the best way is to be accepted into a degree program in that country, get a student visa and do an internship while you are a student. If you want to get a job in your chosen industry in the UK or US, you will not be able to get a work visa for either via doing an internship - you would need to apply directly to full-time positions that offer visa support.

You can make more specific visa inquiries at the US Department of State website or the UK Home Office website. First step is getting a visa, the second is getting a work placement.
