Does this sound right for my son...?

He is 5 weeks today. He eats usually between 4.5 oz and 5.5 oz every 3-4 hours with no change in that pattern at night.

  1. At 5 weeks my son was eating every 2 1/2 to 3 hours and he slept mostly at night.  He took long naps during the day and would go to sleep at around 8:00 and usually sleep until 7:00 waking up for 3 bottles in between.

  2. Mine is 8 weeks and she's hardly on a pattern. She does eat every 3-4 hours. She will sleep after each feeding at night for about 2 hours, but during the day she has a short morning nap and a 3 hour afternoon nap. She still won't sleep in her own bed...unfortunately.

  3. It will completely depend on whether you are breastfeeding or formula feeding.  I breastfeed my son and he was eating every 2-2.5 hours round the clock at that age.  Once in a while he'd go as long as one 4 hour chunk at night without eating.  He basically slept most of the time inbetween eating still.  He might have been awake for an hour and a half in the morning and maybe an hour in the late afternoon.  But other than that he was only awake for as long as it took to feed him, change him, and get him back down to nap (a difficult feat at that age which required swaddling, rocking, and shhhhhhing until he was completely out before laying him down).

  4. Ate about every 2 hours during the day. Had just begun sleeping a longer stretch(about 4 hours) at night. (I remember this, because I'd planned on keeping her in my room until she was down to one middle-of-the-night feeding. I'd figured it would take around 6-8 weeks, but she got there a bit earlier than expected.)

I don't remember her daytime nap pattern.  She was always fed on demand, and she slept when she was tired, so there was no definite pattern anyway.

  5. My little girl was quite sleepy after we brought her home.  She showed up a month early and at 5 weeks she was still sleeping a lot.  Typically she would wake up every 4 hours to eat.  Even through the night.

She was only awake to 'play' with us for about 2 hours in the morning and 2-3 at night.  Otherwise she just napped until she got hungry!

  6. My daughter eats every 3-3 1/2 hrs. on average. Most of the time she'll fall asleep after each feeding, but at least one of the feedings (during the day) she'll stay up for an hour or so. She goes 'to bed' around 7 pm, usually wakes up at 11pm, and then wakes up again at 4 am.
