Why is it only open for 2 hours a day???? Really pisses me off, as it would make my life so much easier if it was open around 11pm. Or if it connected from Embankment tube station.

  1. The bridge was actually designed as an emergency exit from the country end of the station & later it was agreed that it could be used as an exit point during the moring rush hour as long as it was manned.

I have been going out of the station that route on & off for the last 5 years and I think that there has only been 3 or 4 occations where it has been manned.

The other reason that it is closed in the late eveing is that homless people would use it to access the station, and to get them removed from the station is a real pain, as you have to have about 4 staff (including police) for one person as the homeless people become violent so to stop that situation from happening the door is shut.

I hope that my answer helps.

  2. Security is the main issue and manning.  Extra staff would have to be employed at the station to man this exit area.  Also in the event of an evacuation or problem this is an alternate emergency route for emergency services to gain access to the platforms without having to struggle through the main concourse.

    Hope this helps
