At Fishers Cross dominates National Hunt Flat Race at Ffos Las
At Fishers Cross delivered a marvellous performance to take victory in the Class 5 Braceys The Friendly Builders Merchant Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race, hosted by Ffos Las on Sunday, February 19, 2012.
The well-known rider, A. P. McCoy didn’t let the five-year-old make any blunder on the racecourse, running him to a classy victory by ½ of a length.
It was quite entertaining show, as At Fishers Cross and Eleven Fifty Nine exhibited contest full of drama.
The two rampant contestants ran neck to neck right through the event, but At Fishers Cross’ decent lead made the difference at the end of the day.
The going was soft, and the 2-mile event started off at 17:15 (GMT). There were 14 fast and furious contenders taking part in the competition.
However, only the duo of At Fishers Cross and Eleven Fifty Nine could come up with a reasonable performance.
The Rebecca Curtis-trained, who was holding the highest odds of 9 to 4, sustained a fair advantage all the way through.
Eleven Fifty Nine challenged his dominance at the final moments, but was unable to overtake the champion.
Following his brilliant run, At Fishers Cross scooped the prize money of £1,754.46.
Anthony Honeyball’s trainee remained ½ lengths adrift of the triumphant, finishing second on the chart.
The runner-up held up towards rear, and despite showing a steady run afterwards, she failed to do something special. The speedy mare was sent off with a starting price of 3/1 – the second highest odds in the competition.
The leading pair stayed well ahead of the rest of the pack. Little Chip ended up third, losing the heat by a huge margin of 18 lengths.
Charlie Longsdon maintained same pace throughout the race and never troubled the leaders.
Mister Newby finished fourth whereas Midnight Belle completed the list of top five.
At Fishers Cross started off his career superbly.
After making a winning debut at Cork in November 2011, the Irish challenger continued his winning journey. He is unbeaten so far in his career and the bookmakers are anticipating a bright future for the novice colt.
