  1. you don,t. say if your in 4th gear and you slow down, just downshift it into 3rd or 2nd.


  2. Not in 1st gear.  Brake before you get to the bend and then if you're slow enough to negotiate the bend, downshift to the gear matching your speed.

  3. I've never encountered a 1st gear corner in normal street driving.  Normal turns - say like at an intersection would be 2nd or 3rd gear depending on type of vehicle and speed.  The reason one downshifts for corners is because you take them slower than the straight bits and you need to keep the engine in the proper operating RPM band.
