  1. If it is a no-kill shelter they keep the animals.

  2. not all rescue centers put dogs to "sleep" if they cant find a home..i volunteer at a local shelter and its a "no kill" shelter..and there are more of this type around than used to be...unless an animal is very sick and no chance of recovering, the shelter im affiliated with wont put an animal down...

  3. they set a particular time frame for them to find a home. when all things are done and nothing happens, sad to say they put them to "sleep"

  4. If you mean Animal Services ("the pound"), dogs only have a set period to be adopted, then they are euthanized - very sad and the first place you should look if you want to adopt a dog.

Non-profit private shelters are usually "no-kill" shelters and will keep dogs as long as need be until they are adopted - even years.

Private breed rescues like ours also have no time limit, we keep our dogs as long as needed until the get adopted.   I have adopted 3 that had either had issues that needed long term help or that were a bit old to be moved out again.

We never, ever, put dogs down if they can be saved.  It keeps us permanently broke and I have had my last 3 fosters vetted completely using my own money, but that's what rescue does.

We have several dogs now that have been with us for over 2 years and recently placed another that was in foster for 2 years also.   We give our fosters all the time they need to find the right "forever home".

Unfortunately, county funded Animal Services does not have the space, money, or personnel to do that - that's where the dogs are put down after a few days.   We pull all dogs we can from there before their time is up, but many, many, have no place to go and no one to take them - it is a terrible tragic waste and the reason we are so strong on spay/neuter.

No more should be bred until every single dog has a loving, caring home.   Anyone who carelessly adds more to that tragic number is heartless and irresponsible, to say the least.

  5. sadly, they put them down in a calm way.

its really sad but at least they don't do what the japans do, they are really cruel they suffocate them and things like that. its discusting.

    look it upp,

but yeah the answer to your question is that they put them down:(

    xoo, i hope this helped.

  6. Most animal shelters will euthanize animals if they can't find them homes, but there are "no-kill" shelters that will keep the animals even if they can't be placed.

  7. dog rescue and aspca are not the same...rescue societies provide foster care for dogs that can no long stay with their owners.

  8. They generally wait for sometime. If they cant find a home, they uthanise the animal, that is putting it to sleep in a humane way. However, as you can understand, this is only a last resort. They do it only when the centre is overcrowded.

  9. I can't speak for all Rescues. At the Rescue where I volunteer, we keep on trying, so long as the dog is one we're willing to place at all. If we're NOT willing to place a dog, it is put down, but that's a *very* rare event. We recently placed a 'difficult to home' dog, after she'd been in our hands for nearly a year - We kept looking carefully at our applications, and kept working on her specific issues, and eventually found the perfect home for her, despite it taking six times longer than our average.

We've got a special needs dog that's been in the system for almost a year and a half now, but we're not giving up on that one, either - She's placable, if we can find someone willing and able to deal with her medical needs. Meanwhile, we care for her and keep her happy and active. She may never find a 'forever home,' but so long as we can care for her properly, we'll keep on trying.

  10. if the shelter has a no kill policy then time will not run out and they will find a foster home until a home is found but if they do not have a no kill policy then i am afraid to say the poor dog is put to sleep

  11. Sorry mate but they get put to sleep its sad.  :(
