I'm all for letting people listen to what ever music they want, at whatever volume they want.

But there are some smutty, violent, awful songs out there, and when I have kids with me, I hate that they have to hear that. I hate listening to it.

Also, I've had the kids ask some pretty embarrasing questions.

P.S. They aren't my kids. Usually nieces and nephews or friend's children, so I don't want to step on parent's toes about sensitive issues.

What do you say to kids about it?

  1. ~~I would be honest and say in our FREE country, people are allowed to play and listen to music that is full of words we do not use, and things we don't even like to think about. I'm sorry you have to hear these bad words, but we will be gone in just a minute. Believe me, what they will hear at school is just as bad. It's too scary to confront anyone with demands even for your kids sake. In fact that would be putting them in worse jeopardy. Raise them right and they will understand there are people of different walks of life with different tastes and ways of living. It's better they learn to be tolerant acceptable of different types, and be comfortable with their own choices. This freedom and difference makes America what it is.~~

  2. honestly, i would totally feel that it would be okay if someone told me to turn my music down because of the language- as long as they were nice about. some people will of course be rude about it but i am sure a lot of people might not realize how loud their music may be sometimes- i know i don't.

  3. I don't really care to listen to someones music, I try to be respectful and keep my music at a decent volume so I expect the same from other people. I really hate it when they are playing loud music in the housing community I live in, there are a lot of kids here and they don't need to listen to this c**p. As soon as "quiet time" hits I call PMO (military police) and have them take care of it. I don't really want to be a b*tch but I have a daughter and she needs her sleep.

  4. It kinda sucks for kids to hear that, but its not like you can really do anything about it. I don't mind loud "smutty" music, but yeah I wouldn't play it for a kid.

When my I take my younger sister out and people are playing music like that I just talk to her and distract her from the lyrics. Just tell the kids "That music has bad words, we shouldn't talk about it" or something. Just act like its no big deal, and they will hopefully forget about it.

  5. I do not ever get tempted to tell people to turn the music down.  Turn your own music on, if your kids are stimulated they really wont be paying attention to the others cars music.

  6. I just turn up my music and hope the other person gets the hint.

  7. I'm often tempted but never do.  Daily in the paper I read about people being shot for less.  Sad but true.

To the kids?  Say, "Their mothers would be so disappointed that they don't have any respect for you or I."

  8. like the song i kissed a girl lol
