  1. Yes insurance type does matter.

I have TriCare, military insurance, and we are only authorized 1 ultrasound at 20 or so weeks to determine the s*x of the baby. If you are high-risk though due to a medical issue or previous miscarriages, you usually can get an ultrasound early on, and almost every appointment after that.

If an issue arises like extreme cramping or spotting and you are worried, you can go to the doctor & they will probably preform an ultrasound on you just to check on the status. It's a way to sort of get around the strict insurance rules, but you should only go if you have a real issue.

  2. Yes that is true, depends on your doctor and the insurance.  at 11 weeks you may be able to hear the heart beat with a Doppler so that should be exciting.  I was only suppose to get 2 ultrasounds, I ended up getting 3 because my doctor was concerned about something. So unless it is medically necessary you will only get what your insurance pays for unless you pay out of your own pocket.

  3. B/w 16-20 weeks is when you typically get one...better luck finding out the s*x closer to 20 weeks.  Most insurances will only allow 1 U/s as far as I understand.  It's scary not knowing the first few weeks if the baby is growing well.  Just remain positive and know you'll see it soon enough!  I can't recall when we first got to hear heartbeats, but it wasn't very early either.

  4. by ur next visit u will hear the heartbeat for sure, because thats about the time, the machine thingy is supposed to pick it up.

the ultrasounds yes are done between 16-22 weeks, because before they are too little, and at this time they messure him/her to make sure everything is coming alone, adn get a due date.

plus doctors do not give ultrasounds for the h**l of it, honey. its not proven safe nor harmful but they do it only if they have to. if u have some sort of issue with the pregnancy adn have to be checked constanly then yeah but no u will not get one cause u are throwing a tantrum---

i was in a car accident 2 weeks ago, and am 37 weeks adn i asked for an ultrasound like 10 million times, adn it wasnt done. only when they needed to make sure that the head was down they did a climpse of it...and it was like 5 min, i didnt even know where the head was it was so quick so there...car accident/h**l of it

    adn they told me no

  5. i got my fist ultra sound at 11 weeks. and heard my baby's heartbeat for the first time at six weeks. With both my pregnancies I only got two ultrasounds I think thats just standard unless there is something wrong with your baby. i don't think insurance has any thing to do with it I was on medicaid with my first and have private insurance through my job with this one.

    I suggest a new doctor.

  6. My insurance only gives 2 for a low risk pregnancy.  If you want an untrasound, you can have one, but you'll have to pay out of pocket.

  7. I was suppose to get only 2 ultrasounds because of my insurance. One was very early though just to confirm the pregnancy and rule out ectopic (around 6 weeks), and then the second was the 20 week ultrasound. I did get a few extras because of complications though. The only thing you could really do would be to pay for an ultrasound out of pocket.

  8. Unless there is a medically indicated reason, most women only get an ultrasound around 20 weeks.  If there are questions about the date of the pregnancy, you may get one during the first trimester to figure out the age of the fetus.

There are many ways to assure that your baby is healthy and growing normally that do not involve ultrasound.  Two low-cost and easy ways to make sure your baby is growing and healthy can be done at your prenatal appointments. At your appointments your doctor will most likely listen to the heartbeat with a Doppler and at later appointments, check the baby's growth by measuring the growth of your uterus with his/her hand or measuring tape.

Unnecessary ultrasounds may be fun for you and reassuring, but ultimately they make medical care more expensive for everyone.

  9. I am 6 weeks and I have my first ultrasound tomorrow

  10. Usually, you don't even get an ultrasound until at least 20 weeks.  (for s*x of baby)  However, they should put a fetal monitor on you so they know the babies heart rate, and that way you can hear the baby and know that he/she is okay.  I'd ask about this.  And yes, a lot of insurances don't cover more than 2 ultrasounds.  You can always pay out of pocket... they can be pricey though.  I'd ask your doc. how much one would cost, and see if you can afford that.  Good Luck
