At least eleven South Korean volleyball players face life ban for match fixing – Volleyball news
The South Korea's volleyball association has recently punished at least eleven of its volleyball players for horrendous act of match fixing.
The players were found doing curb corruption in the sport, while the volleyball governing body of South Korea banned the players for life. The news reached the international media on Monday, March 19.
In addition to volleyball players, seven players of different other sports suffered the same penalty for their latest efforts to use prohibited means in the domestic sports. The South Korean sport was reported about the match-fixing scandals in professional
volleyball, soccer, and baseball, which forced the authorities to take action. The South Korean sport has declared no flexibility regarding this particular matter of match-fixing.
Four of the banned volleyball players were associated with the military athletics. There were two men and two women involved in the scandal. Reportedly, the men received some US$5,300 for each match that they held back.
In the last two seasons, they allegedly fixed between one to eight matches. The South Korean Volleyball Association has fined them six million for each fixture. Likewise, the two women athletes charged US$4,400 for fixing each match. They have been penalised
with $5 million for each match. The local news agency has confirmed the amount accepted by these players.
The spokesman of South Korean Volleyball Association, Chang Kyong-min shared his thoughts about the matter and talked about the ways of controlling such things in the future.
He stated, “We will increase education for the players and continue to make efforts to prevent a recurrence of match-fixing.”
The federation is taking possible measures to stop match fixing. The S. Korean volleyball association has strict policy regarding rigging in the matches. The players are discouraged to use unfair means in the game and who are found guilty face strict action.
Last week, some 27 Baseball and Volleyball players were charged by the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office as they were gambling brokers for their suspected connection in match fixing.
Nonetheless, this is not only in South Korea that matches are fixed but the whole world is facing this problem. Players of different sports get engaged with people who bring shame to the name of sport. Match fixing should be discouraged in all possible terms.
