I want to study French but I think it's only available with business and I'm not doing business for my leaving so can I study any of the following subjects with each other: French, Geography, Biology or Home Ec. I would like to study 2 of one of those.

Thanks, tell me anything useful you know about LYIT!

  1. You'll have to call them and get a copy of their prospectus.

  2. The short answer is no, their prospectus is on line and shows the courses they offer, they are unlikely to deviate from them but ring them and ask to speak to the course co-ordinator.

Generally speaking Universities/colleges are divided into different Faculties such as Arts, Sciences, etc.  Depending on the University/college they may offer certain degrees, courses or subjects.  Geography & French for instance usually come under the Arts/Humanities faculty and Biology, etc under the Science Faculty unless a University has both faculties it is unlikely they will offer a crossover.  There's also the issue of the degree they would award, Science subjects are usually awarded a BSc, Arts/Humanities a BA.

I would advise you to look into the Liberal Arts/Humanities degrees offered by other Universities in Ireland to see what you think.  You can use the CAO website to find different courses:
