  1. I haven't heard of that as being routine.  Did you ask when they took the blood?

Generally they should tell you why they are sticking your baby.

  2. Between 9 and 12 months they will do an Iron test on babies, it goes along with their check up.

  3. They could be taking blood for any number of reasons. The toe or heel pricking is the usual way to take blood from a baby. I suspect they wanted to do a routine blood test which would test for iron levels hemoglobin levels and red blood cells. They do this just to make sure there are no warning signs of a potential problem. Its really nothing to worry about, if the test comes back showing a problem they will call you. I would suggest you call the dr's office and ask them how her blood test came back. Then ask them to fax or mail you a copy of it.

  4. Neither of my childern had that done, and my youngest is only 11 months. My toddler didnt have that done either. May be they thought something was wrong with her but didnt want to alarm you because it was probably nothing. Good luck, I hope she is ok.

  5. i would say either iron or lead screening

but i would call the doctors office and ask as i would have known what it was before they done it

  6. If I remember right it's to check for iron level, normal procedure.

  7. they didn't tell u/ u didn't ask???????

  8. Do you mean to tell me that you allowed your daughter's toe to be pricked and you don't know why they were doing it?  It is your responsibility as her parent to know what they are doing to your child and why.  You need to talk to your daughter's physician and don't be afraid to ask questions after all, the physician is just that, not God.  If they gloss over your concern,  Stop them right then and tell them that as your daughter's parent, you are concerned with her welfare and you want to be active in matters concerning her health.

  9. It was probably either Iron or Lead but next time make sure to ask them what they are doing to your daughter.  As the parent you should have all that information.

  10. I got this from someone else answer to a similar questions:

If they need to test for lead (if your house is an older house they do), then they will draw blood from the arm with a small needle. My son handled it better than vaccinations but it was not fun by any means. If there is no order for a lead test, then they can get the blood from a finger or toe prick. This is according to my pediatrician and the order is going through Quest labs.

  11. They pricked my son's toe for an iron reading.. but you should definately ask when you are not sure what they are doing to your daughter. Just to make sure.
