  1. I'm really not sure, but it definitely does sound like a bird. I do suggest you should, though, put your dog inside. You don't want any accidents to happen. I hope you find out what it is! :)

  2. Please bring your dog inside until you find out where the screeching is coming from. Get online & see what info you get when you type in "screeching birds."  I thought owls screech but I could be wrong.

  3. Perhaps it is not a bird but could be a fox? My neighbor pointed out this noise one night that was BEYOND ERIE that really does sound like unearthly screeching. It turned out that fox make a  very scary high pitched noise when they are being territorial. Recently, both my kitty and my neighbor's kitty came home with serious wounds on their hind quarters that we suspect may be due to this fox. I don't think a fox would take on a dog but I would always worry about rabid animals. (It is always important to keep your pets shots up to date.) Hope this helps. *It would also help to know what part of the country you live in.

  4. Owls screech (some) and actually raccoons can screech. I wouldn't leave a puppy outside unattended for many reasons. A runt pit bull puppy would be vulnerable to theft for the purposes of "training" other pit bulls in fighting.

  5. It is likely a small falcon like an American Kestral.  We have both barn owls and the small falcons living right across the street from us.  The owls are quiet but those falcons screech pretty loud and often while flying around at night.  You have absolutely no reason to worry.  They will completely ignore both you and your dog.  Why don't you go on out and see if you can do a little night time bird watching?  It might be fun.  I enjoy watching ours. They eat bugs.  :)
