  1. yes

  2. Every plane has a flashing light unless like the airforce has stealth planes such as the f-117, f-22, b-2 all stealth planes do not have flashing lights but it could have been a sataliite

  3. It might be the lower anti collision light (the read one) was inop?

You know there are normally two red blinking anti collision lights, one at the top, one at the bottom, and there are also two or more withe strobe lights? usually at wing tips.

  4. yes, they're called strobe lights usually white flashing lights part of navigation lights which the left is  a red light the right has green and the tail is the white flashing lights. thereby you know which way the aircraft is going.

  5. could of been a satelite and if it was right at dark it could of been the space station and the shuttle.  i always look to the sky and live a ways out from town and i see satelites all the time and you can search for times to view the space station and the shuttle

  6. All airplanes that have electrical systems--and not all do--have at the least a red light on the left wingtip, a green light on the right wingtip, and a white light at the tail.

Some aircraft, including essentially all transport aircraft, have strobe lights that flash regularly.  But by no means all have flashing lights.  So you may have seen a smaller airplane without strobes.
