At peak development, how much do all the leaves of a big tree weigh?

I imagine someone has figured this out for various trees, and I'd like to know. Perhaps they weighed a hundred leaves, counted them on a branch and then counted the number of branches.

I look out and admire these big mammoths that are able to hold up such weight and take energy from the sun. I marvel that the sun is driving this growth all over the world: such power.

  1. The amount of biomass gained by trees is called Net Primary Production.  These figures are usually presented in grams (or kg) per year and include all new growth, both woody and vegetative.  Aboveground (dry weight) biomass was estimated to be about 150 tons per hectare by a famous team of scientists in 1974 for an east coast forest in the USA.

I dont know if this helps at all, but I found it interesting.
