I'm not a football player, but to me that sounds like a good way to fall for a pump fake. If you follow the quarterback, he can look you off and then you'll be out of position if he throws the other way.

But again, I'm not a football player, so maybe one will help you out better than I can.

No a safety covers the deepest man only time you can face the qb is when your in a cover 1 it look like this http://www.sportsgamer.com/assets/images...       but look at Brian Dawkins he is the Free Safety and Quintin Mikell is Safety Brain is is play deep and Quintin is playing the middie of the field because the middle line backer is blitz but any ways the safety a lot of times make it seem it he going to blitz a lot but he does a lot of times this can mak the qb throw a bad pass.but it morethen that when be a safey i could go on

you could do that but unless your really good and fast your just gonna get embarrassed! you first need to make sure you have the deepest man in your zone (if you have one) then if you have him locked up you can worry about what the quarterback is doing

No, you always want to be near the deepest man, that way your defense doesn't give up a huge play, but ultimately, you do whatever the coach tells you to, this is just what most coaches will tell you to do.

Depending on what the coverage your defense is in. From the sounds of it probably a form of cover 1 (1deep free safety who covers anything deep)or cover 3 w/ the FS and two corners splitting the feild into 1/3's play middle again nobody gets by you, you are always the deepest man on the field. In both instances. Use your noggin if he is trying to look you off there more than likeley won't be a receiver there. Depending on what level you play only extremeley talented QB's have worked this in to their passing g
