They have almost 600 inches of snow, and in the next two weeks the highest temperature will be 51˚ and snow, so why do they close so early?

  1. In the back of my mind I have a vague feeling that somewhere in the deal between the Forest Service and Jackson Hole resort there is a compulsory closing date.  I could be wrong.

But a lot of places close because the punters lose interest before the snow melts.

  2. people move on to other sports in the spring. it costs money to have employees and work the lifts. relatively few people come during spring so it just costs them money

  3. the agreement stated above and also animal migration.

  4. because people stop skiing in april =(

    even when theres enough snow.

after the season i go to non-resort mountians and ski them

  5. Money is the usual answer to that question, also lack of staff to operate the lifts, and insurance policies are dated to close at certain times.  Willie D can probably give a more depth answer to the question.

Our lift staff is less than half what it was a month ago since many are temporary employees from other countries who are returning home. Our teaching staff is also thinning out since many need summer jobs or are going to school and the next semester starts soon.
