The world championships were held there and are a proven facility! Team GB also train there for most of the year and would suit this venue! It should be held at the Manchester Velodrome, not somewhere in London!

  1. Manchester bid for the Games several times and (sadly) lost. I would have loved to have had the Olympics up here. But London won its bid, so it is only fair that London hosts all, or most of the major events.

  2. Chris Hoy wrote a piece in the paper today where he said that he has had a lot of input into design of the new London track, so hopefully we might have even more of an advantage than we would in Manchester!

  3. Yes, because its called the MANCHESTER 2012 Olympics

  4. I agree.

Not all the Beijing events are being held in Beijing, and the London rowing events will be held in Weymouth.

The Aquatic centre we had built for the Commonwealth Games should be used as well - apparently it isn't because 'it isn't suitable for a major international event'. Go figure...

  5. No, the bikes will get stolen and sold to Cash Converters.

  6. I think that's a sensible suggestion. We are obviously going to have cost overruns, so why not save a few bob by using a perfectly adequate facility which already exists. Manchester has a good airport, it's an indoor event so weather doesn't enter in to it and for those who say it is the London Olympics-then don't ask the rest of us to pay for it!

  7. Totally agree. But maybe it would be deemed an unfair advantage - not that the GB cycling team need ANY advantage!

MOE AFG: yes, it IS the LONDON 2012 Olympics - but it's supposed to represent GREAT BRITAIN and stadia around GB will be used for different events. So why NOT Manchester?
